Croatia (HRK) – adopting euro 1st January 2023 

Croatia’s accession to the euro area will be effective 1st January 2023; as a result of this, the Croatian Kuna (HRK) will cease to be Croatia’s currency and will be replaced by the euro (EUR). Please refer to the website of the Croatian National Bank for further details. 

HRK currency accounts
If you hold HRK currency accounts we will be closing your accounts on or shortly after 15th December 2022. A separate communication has been issued containing guidance on HRK account closure and next steps.

HRK currency payments
We will cease to support inbound or outbound HRK payments with a value date beyond 16th December. After this date, any inbound or outbound HRK payments will be rejected.

Please note:

  • If you have debtors who make regular payments in HRK, you will need to notify them of alternative bank details for those payments
  • If you have any standing or future dated payment instructions in HRK, these will be rejected if received with a value date beyond 16th December

To mitigate any unforeseen circumstances, from December we recommend (where practicable) clients stop making payments in HRK.

India (INR) – LEI Update

From 1st October 2022 the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) require all INR payments where remitter, beneficiary or both have a Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) to provide this in the payment instruction regardless of payment value. Previously where an LEI had been obtained, the LEI only needed to be included in payments of INR 50 crore/500m or above.

For guidance on INR payment formatting, please see the Barclays Global Payments Guide (pg 31-32).

Failure to include an LEI number when applicable may lead to future payments being rejected or returned.

The Government of Peru has declared 9 December as a new annual public holiday commemorating the Battle of Ayacucho, which consolidated the independence of America. 9 December is a national holiday for all public entities and institutions in Peru and will be observed for the first time on 9 December 2022.

United Arab Emirates (AED) – Change to UAE Working Week

On 01 January 2022 the UAE changed its weekend from Friday / Saturday to Saturday / Sunday. Please note Barclays will not change the current cut off times, but the change in the weekend would in practice allow customers to achieve a value date on a Friday, which was not available before. Barclays payment systems have now been updated to reflect this change which means the first Friday you can achieve a value date for AED is Friday 14 January 2022.

United Arab Emirates (AED) – No change to Barclays UAE payment processing until further notice

In December 2021 the UAE Federal Government announced the UAE working week would change to a Saturday / Sunday weekend, effective from 01 January 2022. On 20 December 2021 the UAE Financial Regulator announced changes to UAE banking processes to support the government directive.

Due to the challenging notice period for this change, Barclays is currently working on the implementation for clients sending/receiving AED outside of the UAE. To ensure all impacted parties have sufficient time to complete the required changes Barclays will provide an update in due course, including the date from which the working day change for AED will be applied. Until then the AED cut-off time remains unchanged, as documented in the cut-off time guide relevant to your channel.
