Activating a Replacement or Renewal Smart Card or SIM

Barclays iPortal

If you are already registered with Barclays iPortal and need to activate a smart card please follow the steps detailed below.

Your Security Contact will be responsible for the receipt of your smart card

Step 1: Activation of Smart card or SIM

Replacement cards:

If you have ordered a replacement card or SIM for a User, a new smart card or SIM will be sent to the nominated Security Contact and a temporary PIN will be also sent directly to the Users registered address (usually their home address). Before the renewal card can be used, Users must be in possession of the temporary PIN and have the card activated by the Administrator. If renewal card is for a System Administrator and there aren’t sufficient System Administrators to activate the card, then please call the helpdesk to complete the activation.

To activate a renewal card/sim, the System Administrator will need to follow the steps below:

1. Select 'Admin'
2. Users screen will display as default (or click 'Users' from the left hand side navigation)
3. Hover over the details for the user that you want to activate and click the hamburger icon
4. Select 'Activate User'
5. Click 'Yes' to confirmation message
6. Smart Card Users - If you are set to Sole Administration, you will now enter your PIN into the Pin Pad reader when prompted to do so. If you are set to Dual Administration, then a second Administrator will need to approve this from the ‘To Do’ list.
7. Biometric Readers Users (SIM) - If you are set to Sole Administration, you will now authenticate using your biometric reader when prompted to do so. If you are set to Dual Administration, then a second Administrator will need to approve this from the ‘To Do’ list.

If renewal card is for a System Administrator and there aren’t sufficient System Administrators to activate the card, then please call the helpdesk who will complete the activation.
